Set once again around the haunted and infamous Lanruo Temple, the film dives deeper into the backstory of Yan Chixia—a heroic swordsman burdened by destiny, loyalty, and unrequited love.
The film opens with eerie visuals of spirits haunting a desolate temple and quickly escalates into a supernatural battle between humans and demons. What sets this version apart from previous adaptations (like the 1987 and 2011 versions of A Chinese Ghost Story) is its focus on Yan Chixia’s inner world, not just his demon-hunting prowess.
